Query Letters – Do They EVER Get Easier to Write?

Here’s an email I got today from one of my current coaching clients:
I am still having trouble with queries. The hardest part for me is coming up with ideas, but I am having a challenging time pairing up ideas and publications. It takes me such a long time to even formulate one that I am finding it incredibly frustrating and that makes it hard to get it done. It is still really amorphous and overwhelming. Will it ever get easier? I even went and bought a great book about queries, since it’s obviously an area I could stand to improve upon. I now finally have an idea, and a magazine, but have yet to write the actual query itself. It took hours and hours just to get this far…

The Dangers of Defending Your Manuscripts

Every month, I guest blog for Missy Frye at the Incurable Disease of Writing. For this month’s post, I decided to mix it up a little and do a short podcast with fellow author Susan Kimmel Wright to talk about the dangers of defending your manuscripts.
Susan and I were both instructors for the Institute of Children’s Literature for many years. As such we critiqued dozens of manuscripts every week, and we often dealt with students who spent a great deal of time defending their work, which can be quite detrimental.

Thanks!
