During my years as a teacher in several different alternative schools or special programs, I learned a valuable lesson that relates to my freelance writing career today.
The lesson was, I needed to get good at making connections between items that (on the surface) HAD no connection.
That is, they were seemingly NOT related in any way, shape, or form.
In the world of education, this meant I created “authentic learning experiences” for my students.
I showed them how the information I was presenting them with each day connected to what they would experience in the REAL world.
Today, as a fulltime freelance writer and writing coach, I am still constantly creating connections for my coaching clients.
I help them learn how the material they love to create can be connected to the REAL world.
By that I mean, I help them make a connection between what they write and the person or persons who will want to read (and purchase) their writing.
Are you good at making connections between what you write and the markets you wish to write for?
If so, how do YOU do it?
I’d love to hear from other writers about this.
Happy writing - and connecting!
