Home Sweet Home Page

Author and Internet consultant Carma Spence-Pothitt will be launching her new e-book in a few days. It’s called Home Sweet Home Page. In this book she covers the 5 deadly mistakes authors, coaches, and speakers make with their website’s home page and how to fix them.

I’ll be taking part in the launch party for this book. On Monday, March 22, 2010, Carma will be my guest on Book Bites for Kids to talk about her book. And, on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, Carma will be the guest blogger here, when she’ll answer YOUR questions about professional websites and homepages.

If you have a question you’d like to have Carma answer on March 24th, please leave your question here today as a comment. I’ll compile all the questions and forward them to Carma. And I’ll send a reminder to everyone in the March 22nd issue of my Build Your Business Write newsletter to visit the blog here on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, to get the answers to all the questions.

So go ahead. Ask your question now. Just leave it as a comment!

Intentions Can Make All the Difference…

Since you’re visiting this blog you probably want to be a successful writer.

You want to see your byline on articles, stories, books, etc.

Plus, you want to make enough money writing these types of things that you can live comfortably without having to work at something else, too. In fact, you probably want to quit your regular day job so you will have more time to write.

That’s all well and good.

But, if you make those goals your main intention for writing, you probably won’t be very successful.

Instead, you’ll forever be anxious and edgy, always on an emotional roller coaster – UP when you get an acceptance letter and a check – DOWN when you get rejections.

And that’s no way to live.

To truly enjoy the writer’s life that is joyful and exhilarating, focus on serving others through the materials you write.

If you do, you will experience a calmness and serenity that leads to greater satisfaction and a successful writing career.

Live and write with this intention: I serve others through the things I write – and see what starts to happen.

Yes, You CAN Afford a Writing Coach!

writing coach

For the past couple of years, as my coaching practice has grown, I’ve struggled to find enough time to write when so much of my time has been spent coaching other writers.

When things have gotten really hectic, I’ve asked myself – Am I a writer who coaches OR a coach who also writes?

It has never taken me but a second to answer – I’m a writer who coaches.

With that in mind, I’ve been developing ways I can coach more writers and still have plenty of time for my own writing.

Several years ago I created something called The Morning Nudge. Back then, the Nudge was simply a short inspirational e-mail designed to motivate writers to get a little writing done every day. But, over time, the Nudge has evolved into much more than that.

Today, The Morning Nudge is actually my basic coaching program for freelance writers. It’s the way I offer coaching for a large number of writers and still have time during the week to get my own writing done.

Subscribers to The Morning Nudge still get a short e-mail from me every weekday morning. But this e-mail now includes writing tips, marketing tips, and links to other helpful resources writers need and want.

Now, a subscription to The Morning Nudge also includes FREE membership in The Morning Nudge Club. The Nudge Club provides members with a wide variety of coaching tools and services that are available whenever they need them.

My goal as a coach this year is to help more and more writers learn to write more, sell more, and make more money than ever in 2010.

My goal as a writer is to remain a model for the writers I coach. That means I also need to write more, sell more, and make more money from my writing than ever in 2010!

I know how difficult it can be to start a freelance writing career.

I also know how difficult it can be to remain focused on the writing.

I also know how helpful it can be to have a coach.

If you’re struggling to build a successful freelance writing career, you CAN afford my coaching through The Morning Nudge.

Right now, a subscription to The Morning Nudge – which includes FREE membership in The Morning Nudge Club – is offered at a ridiculously LOW price of just $12.00 for the whole first year. But that price will go up soon.

Find out more here now!

I know 2010 is going to be MY best year yet!

Let me help you make 2010 YOUR best year yet for writing, too!

Good for Writer’s Digest!

Writer's Digest

If you subscribe to the weekly email update from Writer’s Digest, you may have seen my ad yesterday for The Morning Nudge.

My main mission as a writing coach this year is to help as many writers as I can, write more, sell more, and more MORE MONEY than EVER in 2010. But I also want to have more time to do more of my own writing. And that’s why I’ve decided to do most of my coaching this year through The Morning Nudge and The Morning Nudge Club (subscribe to The Morning Nudge and you receive FREE membership in The Morning Nudge Club) rather than spend too much time on one-on-one coaching.

When I placed my ad with Writer’s Digest the other day, I was suprised to learn that anyone who places an ad in their online or print publications must furnish a professional resume. That way, they know that the person placing the ad is really qualified to offer the products and/or services in their ad.

What a wonderful requirement!

How reassuring to readers that the ads they see in a publication are coming from qualified individuals or businesses, not just from someone who can afford to pay for the ad!

If you don’t get the free e-newsletter from Writer’s Digest, you’ll want to subscribe to it here now Just fill in your email address in the box on the left side of the page once you click through to the Writer’s Digest website.

And, click here to get a FREE 5-day trial subscription to The Morning Nudge. Together, we can make 2010 your best year YET for your writing career!

You’ve Got a Mailing List – Now What?

join_the_list

In my last couple of blog posts, I’ve talked about the importance of having an opt-in box on your website or blog, so you can stay in contact with your readers by building a mailing list.

But once you’ve got a mailing list, you need to have something to send to the people on your list on a regular basis.

What could that be?

Well, most of you who answered that question (as a comment to my last post) got it right when you said you need to offer something your readers will want and need, so they’ll value whatever it is you’re sending them. Otherwise, they’ll simply opt-out of your mailing list and you’ll never hear from them again.

The easiest item to give your readers on a regular basis is a newsletter. Fill your newsletter with informational articles, tips, special offers, and other helpful resources, and most of the people who signed up for your list will be glad they did. Still, you should expect a few people to opt-out of your list each time you send out your newsletter. No matter how hard you might try to please everyone, you can’t be all things to all people. But the good news is, when people opt-out of your list, you end up with ONLY the people who really value what you’re sending them. And those people tend to be your clients and/or customers.

From time to time, survey your list and ask what they’d like to see more of in your newsletter, or what they’d like to see less of. That way, you can be sure you’re sending your readers stuff they value and not just stuff you THINK they value.
