Get Ready to Earn $6,000 OR MORE per month as a Freelance Writer!

freelance writingHave you always dreamed of becoming a freelance writer?

Someone who works from the comfort of your own home and even lives in comfy pjs, or sweatpants and a t-shirt, most of the time instead of stuffy, uncomfortable business attire?

Ah...it IS a wonderful life.

I know from personal experience and I'm so thankful I don't have to jump in the shower every morning, rush to get dressed, and race out the door to a job that makes me miserable.

Been there. Done that.

So what's stopping YOU from living the ultimate writer's life?

My guess is, you really don't know how to get started - OR - if you have gotten started, only to encounter a few road blocks along the way, you don't know what to do next to get back on track.

You can't figure out how to find the top paying assignments that will let you live the writer's life of your dreams.

You don't know how to write winning query letters and cover letters that will land you top paying assignments.

You don't know how to create a focus for your writing, or how to start developing an online presence that will get your name known among editors and publishers you wish to write for.

Well, that's where I come in.

I teach many people HOW to write. But I also coach people to the freelance writing career of their dreams through my Working Writer's Coaching Program.

I help each writer who joins my program develop a unique blueprint for a writing career based on his or her individual experience, talents, and interests.

I've coached medical writers, business writers, educational writers, copywriters, and children's writers. My program works for all kinds of writers who want to make freelance writing a part time or full time career.

The Working Writer's Coaching Program is an intensive 8-week program, where you and I will work together to create the writing career you have always dreamed of. We'll talk by telephone each week during the 8 weeks - either twice a week for 30 minutes at a time, or once a week for a full hour.

When I decided to become a full time freelance writer many years ago, within three months I was earning $6,000 a month following the same steps I'll show you how to take in the Working Writer's Coaching Program.

These steps worked for me. I know they will work for you, too.

So what are you waiting for?

Let's get started today!

Giving Thanks!

Short SleevesI was overwhelmed with emotion this morning when I read today’s blog post from friend and fellow writer, Hal Manogue.

As The Working Writer’s Coach, I always hope I’m making a difference (for the better) in the lives of my family, friends, coaching clients, and other people in my personal network.

Thanks, Hal, for letting me know that I AM.

My Interview with Author Susan Schaab

Susan SchaabSusan Schaab is a New York attorney who, for more than eight years, practiced technology and intellectual property law with various firms and as in-house counsel in New York, Texas and California.

She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1985 and established herself as a systems designer and consultant in Dallas, Texas, writing software in a variety of programming languages. In 1989, she moved to California to attend law school. While a law student, she participated in a “study abroad” program in London and clerked as an unpaid stagiaire in a small international French firm. She graduated from law school in 1992. She has licenses to practice law in New York, Texas, California and D.C.

She began developing material for a novel in 1998. In 2002, she attended a workshop for lawyers writing legal fiction. She was also accepted into the 2002 Summer Seminar for Writers at Sarah Lawrence College, but was not able to attend due to unexpected obligations. She is a member of Mystery Writers of America, Sisters in Crime and Authors’ Coalition.

Recently, I interviewed Susan for a Writers in the Sky podcast segment. Listen to the interview here.

Below is a synopsis of her book, Wearing the Spider.

Wearing the Spider coverIt starts with a simple unwanted kiss…and evolves into a labyrinthine trail of forgery and illusion…a hijacked identity, a corruption scandal involving a U.S. Senator accused of channeling illegal benefits to a shady South American firm…even kidnapping and murder. Wearing the Spider by Susan Schaab, first in a series of fiction titles from Galavant Press, may be the only novel to combine elements of sexual harassment, identity theft, and political scandal into one sophisticated plot set in the hard-driving corporate culture.

Evie Sullivan, a rising legal star on the fast track to partnership at her respected New York law firm, is being set up for a fall…a BIG fall. Besieged initially with seemingly innocuous recordkeeping errors, she overhears portions of a shocking telephone conversation. Then, she is blindsided by discoveries that are much more troubling: impersonation of her email username and unmistakable sabotage of one of her client projects causing a groundswell of doubt within the firm about her competence. Once her name is linked to a deal containing a questionable, and possibly illegal, arrangement, she has no choice but to conduct her own clandestine investigation to clear her name.

An FBI agent confronts her with tough questions about murder and fraud for which she has no answers. As she searches for the truth, the electronic evidence shifts and transforms behind a dynamic veil of security—and certain pieces of the puzzle simply disappear. How will she gather tangible evidence to prove her innocence among the elusive clues and carefully woven traps? At stake: not only her professional reputation and her future with the firm, not only a commission worth $25 million—but several lives.

In this intricately plotted and memorable thriller, attorney and former computer consultant Susan Schaab draws on her expertise in intellectual property and technology law as well as computer systems design to create a fast-paced and thoroughly believable journey through corruption and intrigue…an exhilarating joyride that explores the complex relationships in a big-city law firm, where sexual harassment and manipulation may be more common than any statistics suggest.

Sometimes Writers Just Need to Take a Break!

For the last 6 days, my husband and I have been in Ft. Collins, Colorado, visiting our older son Nick and our daughter-in-law, Sam.

Sometimes writers just need to take a break, and this was a much needed break for me, even though I did get some writing done while I was there.

Still, we had time for other things. Mainly, we got plenty of fresh air and exercise. We went for daily hikes and walks and even did some yoga since Sam is studying to become a certified yoga instructor. We also ate healthy foods and just relaxed and enjoyed hanging out together.

What’s Your Plan?

Make a PlanIf you want to succeed as a freelance writer and earn enough money to live comfortably, you need a plan.

So, what’s your plan?

Most people have only a vague plan at best.

Plus, the plan they do have involves activities they dislike, so what are the chances of their plan ever succeeding?

I’d say, slim to none.

Here’s an example: You want to eventually quit your regular J-O-B and freelance fulltime.

So, your plan is to one day start making cold calls to small business owners and offer them your writing services.

Yikes! The BIG flaw in this plan is that you HATE cold calling.

Worse yet, you hate the type of writing that most small businesses want and need.

When you really think about it, even if this plan did succeed would you really enjoy this type of freelancing any more than you enjoy your regular J-O-B?

Probably not.

The key to creating a GREAT plan is first deciding the type of writing you really love to do.

Next, you need to figure out how to attract this type of work in a way you don’t hate.

When you make this type of plan you’ll be much more successful and much happier because you’ll actually be doing work you love.

So now….make a plan.

Getting to the Good Stuff!

This week I’ve been coaching two clients who seem to be having the same problem.

They can’t MAKE themselves sit down and suffer through the torture of getting started with their writing.

732913_writing_2

I see this happen so often. In fact, I’ve “been there, done that” myself.

Here’s how it goes: You have a writing project you really want to start. But the prospect of finally tackling it is a bit daunting, to say the least.

And no matter how hard you try, you just CAN’T seem to make any progress.

Worse than that! You can’t even get started!

So you finally decide to do something other than write.

After all, if you aren’t going to get any writing done you might as well clean the house, or throw a load of laundry into the washer, or go to the gym and get some exercise.

But then you find you can’t do any of this either because while you start to clean the house, or start to do the laundry, or start to get some exercise, you’re plagued with that nagging guilt.

The guilt that screams, “You SHOULD be writing!”

So now, instead of doing something else that’s productive, you’re sitting around feeling guilty for NOT writing.

And you realize this is totally insane!

Now, you’re not only NOT writing, you’re not doing anything else either.

The guilt of NOT writing has totally paralyzed you!

And you start to think, Surely REAL writers don’t go through all this guilt. Surely they just sit down and write and get their work done.

Sound familiar?

If you’re a writer, I’m sure this little scenario IS familiar. I think all writers go through this at some point.

But the writers who go on to publish - and maybe even make a living from their writing - get to a point where they’re tired of feeling guilty.

They’re tired of disappointing themselves by NOT writing what they know in their hearts they CAN and SHOULD be writing.

So they sit in their chairs and just start writing.

Usually, they write page after page of sheer crap.

But eventually they get to “the good stuff.”

I promise - you’ll get to “the good stuff,” too, if you just sit down and start wading through all the crap.

I can’t say that it will ever get easier to get started. Usually, I have to wade through all sorts of crap before I get to “the good stuff” of any project.

But at least I no longer let FEAR create the GUILT that paralyzes me and keeps me from getting my writing done.

And you don’t have to let that happen either.

It’s true that misery loves company.

So take comfort in knowing that millions of writers the world over are sitting down to start writing.

And it’s probably a painful start for all of them!

But there’s no greater pain than guilt.

Let go of the guilt and you’ll find that wading through a bunch of crap is really quite painless in comparison!

Happy wading (I mean) writing!
