Get Ready to Earn $6,000 OR MORE per month as a Freelance Writer!

freelance writingHave you always dreamed of becoming a freelance writer?

Someone who works from the comfort of your own home and even lives in comfy pjs, or sweatpants and a t-shirt, most of the time instead of stuffy, uncomfortable business attire?

Ah...it IS a wonderful life.

I know from personal experience and I'm so thankful I don't have to jump in the shower every morning, rush to get dressed, and race out the door to a job that makes me miserable.

Been there. Done that.

So what's stopping YOU from living the ultimate writer's life?

My guess is, you really don't know how to get started - OR - if you have gotten started, only to encounter a few road blocks along the way, you don't know what to do next to get back on track.

You can't figure out how to find the top paying assignments that will let you live the writer's life of your dreams.

You don't know how to write winning query letters and cover letters that will land you top paying assignments.

You don't know how to create a focus for your writing, or how to start developing an online presence that will get your name known among editors and publishers you wish to write for.

Well, that's where I come in.

I teach many people HOW to write. But I also coach people to the freelance writing career of their dreams through my Working Writer's Coaching Program.

I help each writer who joins my program develop a unique blueprint for a writing career based on his or her individual experience, talents, and interests.

I've coached medical writers, business writers, educational writers, copywriters, and children's writers. My program works for all kinds of writers who want to make freelance writing a part time or full time career.

The Working Writer's Coaching Program is an intensive 8-week program, where you and I will work together to create the writing career you have always dreamed of. We'll talk by telephone each week during the 8 weeks - either twice a week for 30 minutes at a time, or once a week for a full hour.

When I decided to become a full time freelance writer many years ago, within three months I was earning $6,000 a month following the same steps I'll show you how to take in the Working Writer's Coaching Program.

These steps worked for me. I know they will work for you, too.

So what are you waiting for?

Let's get started today!

Step Out of Your Comfort Zone!

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

For the past several days I’ve been advising readers of The Morning Nudge to take a few chances.

To step out of their comfort zones.

To make a few scary changes that just might lead to bigger and better things.

Here’s a photo of me, stepping out of my comfort zone just a bit:

Open Mike Night

Last Friday night, during Open Mike Night at Coffee Break (a local coffeeshop), I got up and read my Rookie Reader Shoelaces to the crowd.

Now…keep in mind that all the other performers that night were musicians - with the exception of one other writer who read some of his poetry (poetry for adults, I might add).

It doesn’t look like much of a crowd from the photo. Does it?

But that’s because the audience chose the comfy padded chairs and sofas scattered throughout the room rather than sit in the straight chairs arranged for them. Oh, well…at least some people were safe in their comfort zones that evening. But I think everyone had a lot of fun.

Is It Just Me?

EnvelopeDid you ever receive one of those chain letters in the mail that promised to make you rich if you just put your name on the list and sent $1.00 plus the same letter to 3 people (or however many it requested) on the list?

Nowadays, when I sign up to attend online marketing teleseminars, so many of them seem to be saying the same kind of thing - “attend this teleseminar and I’ll show you how to do a teleseminar like this one so you can make money.”

Now…I realize that it’s wise to duplicate marketing strategies and methods that have been show to work effectively.

Yet, do we all have to follow these same models to make money?

Does anyone else feel like the Internet is just one big chain letter - or is it just me?

What do YOU think?

Share your opinions here, please.

I’m really, really curious about other views on this.

Thanks.

Appreciating Poetry

Reading PoetryAs the organizer for the Kansas City Writers Meetup group, part of my job is to arrange for speakers at our monthly meetings. And sometimes those speakers are our very own members. I love it when we have someone in our own group who can share something about writing with the rest of us.

Last night, Amanda Walter, one of our Meetup members, gave an absorbing presentation about appreciating poetry.

Now…I have to admit, I don’t often read poetry for entertainment. I’d much rather read a novel or a great nonfiction book. But I think that’s because I don’t feel comfortable with poetry. I’m just not sure I understand it. And, therefore, I KNOW I don’t appreciate it as much as I should - or could - if I had a better understanding.

Amanda gave us these tips for reading a poem. I’m going to try them and see if I can develop a better understanding, and therefore a deeper appreciation for poetry.

Tips for Reading a Poem:

1. Read aloud or at least move your lips - much of a poem’s experience is in its sounds.

2. Read an annotated edition or read with a dictionary.

3. Read it several times, trying to focus on some different aspect each time.

4. Though sound is important, be attentive to meaning, always.

Make Your Contacts Count - Book Review

0814474020.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_AA240_
Title: Make Your Contacts Count - Second Edition
Authors: Anne Baber and Lynne Waymon
Publisher: AMACOM/American Management Association
Release Date: February 28, 2007
ISBN-10: 0814474020
ISBN-13: 978-0814474020

In business it’s not so much WHAT you know as WHO you know that counts.

So it’s no wonder networking is one of the best ways to develop a successful business of any kind.

But did you know that only 15% of business professionals have the network they need?

If you’re in that other 85% of business professionals, with a not-so-great network, then you need this new book from networking experts and co-authors, Anne Baber and Lynne Waymon.

Make Your Contacts Count tells you everything you need to know about networking but were either too afraid to ask, or you didn’t even know you should ASK.

First, you’ll learn the proper mindset for networking. By that I mean, you’ll find out that networking is not so much about what others can do for you as it is what you can do for others.

You’ll also learn how to introduce yourself to new contacts so you no longer dread introductions, wondering if you’re saying too much or not enough.

Baber and Waymon will tell you exactly what, when, and how to say what you need to say in order to make the most of any introduction.

Then you’ll learn how to follow up with new and current contacts - which is one of the most difficult (and often neglected) networking activities for many busy professionals.

Whether you read the book cover to cover or simply pick out chapters of particular interest, you’ll find helpful tips on every single page of this second edition. Either way, it probably won’t be long before effective networking is something you do almost without thinking about it.

Just imagine how great it will feel (and how successful you’ll be) when you’re among the 15% of business professionals with the network you need.

Gee. Can any of us really afford NOT to read this book?

Quick. Buy it Here

A Trick for Generating Creative Energy

One of the tricks I use to help me stay focused and motivated to do so many different projects is I constantly surround myself with other creative, optimistic people.

Firday Morning Writers' meetup
My Friday Morning Writers’ Meetup Group

My coaching clients, fellow children’s writers, fellow freelance writers, and even online listservs all help me enrich my life with a constant flow of positive energy and enthusiasm.

When I learn about creative projects other writers (and artists) are working on, it motivates me and gives me even MORE creative ideas of my own.

What kind of “tricks” do you use to generate creative energy and enthusiasm for your work?

The True Secret of The Secret

Everywhere you turn today there’s some mention of The Secret - the DVD and book by Rhonda Byrnes.

The SecretBasically, the “secret” Byrnes reveals in her book is simply the law of attraction.

And, according to Byrnes, if you ask for what you want, believe you will get it, then get ready to receive what you have asked for, you’ll start living the life of your dreams because everything you want and need will be attracted to you.

But all that sounds too simple for many people.

They don’t see HOW they can get what they want simply by thinking about it and believing they will get it.

I think that’s because most of these people don’t really believe they SHOULD get what they truly want in life.

Just the possibility of getting what they truly want scares them.

So, to me, here’s the real secret of The Secret - whatever you believe becomes (or is) your reality.

Besides thinking about what you want, you really have to believe you are worthy of getting it.

And believing you are worthy is much, much more than just wishful thinking.

It’s the real secret that motivates us to do what we need to do in order to attract the opportunities and contacts we need in order to get what we really, really want out of life.

It’s easy to think about what we want.

But it’s often much harder to truly believe we should get it.

Today, examine your thoughts and beliefs.

Do you KNOW what you want?

Do you truly BELIEVE you can (and should) get it?

A Typical “Working” Freelance Writer’s Schedule

I tend to think of myself as a typical “working” freelance writer. As such, I’m good at balancing a variety of assignments, along with coaching clients, hosting a daily Internet radio show, and teaching a weekly teleclass for other freelance writers.

freelance writingIf you’re hoping to become a “working” freelance writer yourself - and earn a living from your writing - you should realize you will probably be very, very busy once you get your career rolling along.

The writer’s life of your dreams probably won’t mean sitting on the beach, simply writing when the mood or the “muse” strikes you.

Still, I think the writer’s life is a wonderful, wonderful way to live because you set your own schedule. You decide which hours to work each day, and even WHERE you will do that work. It’s great!

For example, today I’m posting to my blogs, sending out questions to my radio guests for the week, answering emails, and getting The Morning Nudge out to subscribers - all by 9:00, so I can shower, get dressed, and meet with a client at 10:00 at a favorite coffeeshop.

I have a teleclass for members of the Children’s Writers’ Coaching Club to host at noon. And Book Bites for Kids to host at 2:00. After that, I’ll be doing some editing for another client, looking over a few manuscripts for a critique telesession tomorrow night, and then getting award certificates ready for participants of the Lieurance-King Summer Article Challenge that will take place online tomorrow night at 8:00 CST.

I’m also under contract to write two books by March 2008, so I’ll spend some time today (even if it’s only 30 minutes to an hour per book) on each of them.

All this is just a typical “working” freelance writer’s daily schedule.

Are YOU ready to become a typical “working” freelance writer?

The Powers of Gratitude and Focus!

Two factors help me live the freelance writing career of my dreams: gratitude and focus.

freelance writingEvery single day I’m grateful for the wonderful writer’s life I’m able to live.

I get to stay home and work in my pjs all day if I want (and sometimes I do), and I also get to interview other successful children’s writers on my radio show at blogtalkradio.com every weekday afternoon. That’s so much fun. Who wouldn’t want to connect with other writers all across the world?

I also get to work on a variety of interesting writing assignments, and coach other writers to the writing careers of their dreams.

What could be better than that?

I also stay focused on one thing at a time.

And that’s the KEY to accomplishing so many different things every day.

I don’t worry about everything I need to do in any one day.

I just focus on the task at hand.

So here’s a tip that I published in today’s Morning Nudge:

Choose just one task on your to-do list today that you KNOW you’ll feel GREAT about if you just manage to finish that ONE task.

Then focus on that one task today until you complete it.

Don’t worry about everything else on your list.

Just focus on that one activity until you complete it.

Do that, and you’ll also have something new to feel grateful for today.

Try it!
